Endorsement Process
The San Francisco Democratic Party issues endorsements in local candidate races and takes positions on statewide and local ballot measures. Endorsements issued by the SFDCCC in local races become the official endorsements of the California Democratic Party. All candidates who are registered Democrats are invited to participate in the SFDCCC's endorsement process. Candidates will be asked to fill out a candidate questionnaire and will be invited to attend an endorsement interview meeting with members of the San Francisco Democratic County Central Committee. Click here to view a sample of the candidate questionnaire. Endorsement interviews for November elections typically take place in August. These interviews provide an opportunity for candidates to recommend endorsement to the SFDCCC and answer questions. Official endorsements are made at a meeting following the interview meeting. Endorsement requires 50% plus one vote of those members present and voting. At the conclusion of each ballot, if no candidate has received the required majority, the name of the candidate receiving the least votes will be deleted from the listing of candidates on the succeeding ballots. See article VI of the SFDCCC Bylaws for more information about the endorsement process. All meetings, including the interview meeting are open to the public. If you have any questions regarding the endorsement process, please contact Emily Lowe at Elowe@sfdemocrats.org.
